Collision repair is a complex and ever-changing business. At Acura East we are committed to providing the very best collision repair service available. The process of collision repair requires a concentrated effort from a dedicated staff and the best in repair equipment.
What do I do immediately following an accident?
- Remain calm, do not get involved in an argument, and do not admit responsibility.
- If it is safe to do so, remove vehicles from the roadway.
- As required by law, exchange your information with the other involved parties (names, driver's licence #s, addresses, phone numbers, insurance and vehicle particulars).
- Obtain names and phone numbers of any witnesses.
- Go with your vehicle to the nearest Collision Reporting Centre (CRC).
- If the accident occurs within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and your car cannot be driven, ask the tow truck driver to take your car to the nearest CRC for reporting purposes. When the vehicle is released, direct him/her to tow the vehicle directly to Formula Honda.
- Report your accident to your insurance agent/broker or insurance company, and send them a fax of the completed CRC accident report. Tell them that your vehicle will be fixed at Formula Honda's Bodyshop.
- Visit Formula Honda's collision repair facility to feel good about the care we are giving your vehicle.
Accident Reporting Responsibilities
In the GTA, motor vehicle accidents that do not require a tow truck and appear to have less than $1,000 total damage do not require reporting to the police. However, a police officer must be present under any of the following circumstances:
- collisions involving death.
- criminal activity involved in a collision (eg. impaired driving, stolen vehicle, assault, etc.).
- collisions involving Federal, Provincial, or Municipal vehicles.
- collisions involving vehicles transporting dangerous goods.
- collisions involving a person who is uninsured or has a suspended driver's license.
- collisions involving damage to private, municipal, or highway property.
- collisions involving bicycles or pedestrians.
- an involved party refuses to provide required information.
- when in doubt, call police, who will either respond to the accident scene or advise accordingly.
Collision Reporting Centres (CRCs)
There are three police-operated CRCs within the GTA. No fees are charged and the CRCs are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Frequently Asked Questions
Insured Motorists' Rights in Ontario
Can I decide where I want my car to go to be repaired?
- Yes, you, as the motorist, can choose where to have the vehicle repaired. In order to expedite your claim, select the repair facility and notify your insurance company.
Do I need to get three estimates?
- That depends. Select your repair facility, then notify your insurance company. Your insurance company will need to inspect the damage. Ask your adjuster what he/she needs. Generally the claims are handled by the company's claims department, not the agent/broker.
Must I notify my insurance company before repairs?
- Before making any repairs, please notify your insurance company. Make a report and tell them where the vehicle can be inspected.
Who is responsible for the repairs?
- The collision repair facility is responsible for the repairs. Make sure that you select a repair shop that is reputable, is equipped to restore your vehicle to pre-accident condition, and has well-trained staff. You must authorize the repairs.
Does the CRC take "fail to remain" reports?
- The CRC will only deal with property damage; a police unit will be dispatched if the suspect vehicle is still in the area of the collision.
The Insured Rights
You may be recommended by your insurer to deal with independant body shops. It is important for you to note that it is your right to request the body shop of your choosing.
